Franklin Public School's Website Is HORRIBLE

I am COMPUTER LITERATE.

All I wanted was a simple telephone number this morning.

All I wanted was to call the DISTRICT OFFICE and ask a few QUESTIONS.

I wanted the MAIN TELEPHONE NUMBER.

After TEN MINUTES of SEARCHING around the lame site, which is cluttered with photos and other useless information, the best I could do was find email addresses.

Then FINALLY I was able to get a direct number to an individual that I could settle on calling.

Upon calling this individual, instead of going directly to this person, I get an automatic operator that makes me input the person’s extension, which I don’t know.

So I am now required to spell out the person’s last name.

Then I get VOICEMAIL.

FRANKLIN PUBLIC SCHOOL’S WEBSITE IS HORRIBLE!

"UNGLUED" IS an UNDERSTATEMENT!!!!!!!!!

FPS  Does not WANT US TO CALL THEM!

Franklin Public School's Website Is Horrible

UPDATE:  Alright ... I will admit an oversight on my part ...

In just reviewing the site one more time, I did find the MAIN telephone number in the darkened grey footer at the very bottom of the main page.  IT IS THERE, but I'm sorry.  This is not good enough for me.  Why is it not up at the top.  Or in the main body of the page, or under "About our District?  I never brought the page all the way down th the VERY end.  I didn't expect it to be there.

The website is still HORRIBLE!

I've said the same thing before.  In just looking at the site, somehow it has gotten WORSE since PATZ has been here (or Ruder).

What's with all the clutter on it??

The same thing happened to me with the Grey Footer.  My screen was opened fully and I never saw that phone number.  Never had a reason to go all the way to the bottom.  The Main Phone Number should be at the HEADER of the page. Just like on LETTERHEAD!

IT IS HORRIBLE!

Watch out, before you know it they will be asking for $100,000 to hire a website creator (consultant) whatever they are called!  Of course it's the standard school district M.O. to pay someone else to tell them to do the obvious.  Kinda like when the MF schools paid thousands and thousands to an energy consultant who told them to turn off the lights and computers at night.

Idiots.

It must have been the same consultant that West Allis paid for the same results!

Bryan, You are correct! And Germantown was about to hire the same group until Belling talked about and the board began asking for more details and then the company withdrew its proposal.  Interesting hey?

By the way, Janet, Bryan, Kevin and Fred too, you'll love this...  (Janet, hope you don't mind me hijacking your blog for this)...

Look what I found in the Journal today:

"At a self-evaluation session Monday night, (Menomonee Falls) board members also said they were torn between how deeply they should become involved in operational issues when contacted by constituents and how fast to demand change in the district.

Board member Anne Weiland said not being involved in all operational issues can be a problem for members, who have to answer to not only calls from constituents but also bloggers posting information on the Internet."

See the whole article here: www.jsonline.com/.../index.aspx

Think she was talking about me?  ((I'm Blushing)) How dare us big bad bloggers post information on the internet!  Gasp!  The horror!

Keep it up guys, they are paying attention and so are the voters in your districts.

I also love how this self-evaluation session was originally a closed meeting until the MJS started asking questions about why.  Love it!

Try looking at some of the school specific websites!  Our school has grade specific links, where teachers postclass newsletters and information  --- IT HAS LAST SCHOOL YEARS INFORMATION!!!

Why bother???  And to think that COMMUNICATION was part of the Strategic Plan!!!

I wonder exactly how many tech people the District has?  I'm sure each school is responsible for their own website.  That's usually how it works.

There is just no excuse for this sloppy website.  It is just plain useless. I have a feeling it is more useful for the District Employees.  They have links on there too.

A clean, unclutterd site with basic, up-to-date, current information is what we need.

All it takes to keep a website is . . . well, let me think.  It's kind of like doing a blog everyday!  And we do it for free!  Kind of like finding  information and UPLOADING IT!

The pictures of the students can be put on the individual school websites.  Better yet, have a separate page JUST for photos.

A few years back when I was teaching at a private school, I had a class website that was updated weekly.  It took me about an hour a week and that was in the dark ages of web posting, It must be so easy now.

I have a feeling this has to do with... If it is not in the teacher's contract, most won't do it.

By the way, check out any of your local private school websites, I'll bet you Pumpkin cheescake pie that those websites are leaps and bounds better than FPS.

Competition??? Yep.

Oh- I have checked out those private school websites and they are very useful tools!  You would think with TECHNOLOGY and COMMUNICATION as 2 key elements of the Strategic Plan - a well- designed, implemented and updated website would be just the beginning!  I know that St. Mary's website allows the parents to review the students grades - - we are eons away from that based upon what is out there right now.  I think that maybe some of the other Franklin schools utilize the website more, but just like many other initiatives - -  we dont do anything in a "world class" way.

Okay, except blindly ask for more money from taxpayers.
