So, Does Michelle Obama Relate to You?

Just where is she coming from?

From the way she talks, and she's speaking for Barack, too, she doesn't have a clue about the average American who is so gung-ho about hope and change.

Back in Zanesville, Ohio, before the primary, she told a group of women at a daycare center....

“I know we’re spending — I added it up for the first time — we spend between the two kids, on extracurriculars outside the classroom, we’re spending about $10,000 a year on piano and dance and sports supplements and so on and so forth,” Mrs. Obama tells the women. “And summer programs. That’s the other huge cost. Barack is saying, ‘Whyyyyyy are we spending that?’ And I’m saying, ‘Do you know what summer camp costs?’”

"With all those concerns, one might wonder whether the women should be comforting Mrs. Obama, but she assures them that she’s really O.K. “We don’t complain because we’ve got resources because of our education. We’ve got family structure,” she says. “So I tell people don’t cry for me.”

"But there are still problems. As she has many times in the past, Mrs. Obama complains about the lasting burden of student loans dating from her days at Princeton and Harvard Law School. She talks about people who end up taking years and years, until middle age, to pay off their debts. “The salaries don’t keep up with the cost of paying off the debt, so you’re in your 40s, still paying off your debt at a time when you have to save for your kids,” she says.

Oh, don't worry, Michelle....I'm certainly not crying for you.

Between Barack and Michelle, with her high paying job, his senate pay, his book sales, and her pay from serving on Boards, they make over half a million a year.

And she says America is so mean.

I think America has been pretty good to her....

$10,000 a year on piano, dance, sports, and camp?

And she's just adding it up now?

Janet,

Do I have to check and report on what the fat-cat Republicans spend their money on???

Last time I checked - pretty much everyone in Congress is either an attorney or a Doctor. They're also almost all millionaires, and out of touch with us working folks. So, where are you going with this post???

Ohhhh, that's right, the Republicans are scared of Barack so you got to try to smear him - or his wife. I almost "forgot" how Reps acted when they get all scared.........they revert to 2nd grade........

Alright Mr. Blue Collar...

If you are comfortable with what Michelle Obama says when she opens her mouth in public then you can have her.

I don't recall the wives of other presidential candidates saying such ridiculous statements like that above.

Oh wait...what did Billary say?

No...h/she didn't say anything like Michelle.

It's not about what all of the other people in government make for salaries or say ...we're talking about what SHE is saying.

And since she seems to wear the pants in their family...

Steve, you need to get a grip.  Your love affair with obama and your unjaded obsession with him is clouding your judgement.

If she says something ridiculous, just say, "that's ridiculous!"

She is making herself out to be the number one crier and whiner of the liberal party.  The next proposal will be for free piano, dance and sports for all children.  You watch and see.  I wonder what that will cost taxpayers???????

Janet:

"I don't recall the wives of other presidential candidates saying such ridiculous statements like that above."

How about ex-First Ladys?

Barbara Bush regarding displaced Hurricane Katrina victims:

“What I’m hearing, which is sort of scary, is they all want to stay in Texas. Everyone is so overwhelmed by the hospitality. And so many of the people in the arena here, you know, were underprivileged anyway, so this is working very well for them.”

Sounds great Barb......

KAREN123,

Having your head jammed that far "in the sand"(to be polite)must be clouding your judgement too.

You can't tell me to get a grip in one sentence, then state that Mrs. Obama is going to buy all new pianos, ect. with tax money!!! That statement is just "ridiculous"!

Look KAREN123, get used to this statement.......and now, introducing the President and First Lady of The United States of America, Barack & Michelle Obama............thunderous applause............

STRUPP - Good burn..............

What's the matter, Josh...couldn't find anything on topic? What's your point?

Ignorant comment by a then 80-year old woman, who thought she meant well, but can't see the forest for the trees... So what? Has nothing to do with the point of the article and you know it; nor my comment about current presidential candidates and their spouses.

Nice try though.

My comment is absolutely on topic you just don't see your underlying motive for this blog entry.  The theme of your blog topic is whether or not Michelle Obama relates to most Americans.  I can only assume that you are attempting to persuade your readers that she is, in fact, not like us at all (let's be honest here and admit that my assumption is correct).

Your comment, "I don't recall the wives of other presidential candidates saying such ridiculous statements like that above." assumes that somehow McCain's wife or Laura Bush or any other first-lady in the past, present or future is somehow different than Michelle Obama and hasn't lived a privileged lifestyle when, if fact, they are ALL out of touch with the American people because they ALL live a priviledged lifestyle, unlike most Americans.  This isn't a bad thing either.  The fact is that this country's leadership (and their wives) don't have to be born in a log cabin or "blue collar" or come from an under-priviledged lifestyle and most of them weren't.   So to knock Michelle Obama for the statements she made a week ago and making statements like, "I don't recall the wives of other presidential candidates saying such ridiculous statements like that above." is playing party politics as usual.  The fact is that far worse statements have been made in the past from wives of Presidents and they matter just about as much as Michelle Obama's statement.

They don't matter.

....and that goes for Barbara Bush's statement too.

I don't see my underlying motive for my blog entry?

Again, a ridiculous statement.

Michelle Obama is so out of touch with reality it's not even funny.

Steve,  so you admit that your head is in the sand... That's a start.

You need to slow down and read carefully.  I didn't say she would buy pianos... I said she will propose tax payer funded piano, dance lessons and sports for all children.

Also, do understand or recognize sarcasm at all?  Or should I tell you in advance when I use it?

Un-freakin-believable.  Keep drinking the kool-aid. ;)

KAREN123,

I admit nothing but my love of the Obama-Aid.

"Also,do you understand or recognize sarcasm at all? Or should I tell you in advance when I use it?"

KAREN123 - sweets - that's a rhetorical question...... Do you??? Should I???

Maybe you should listen to the nice Nurses and take your big white pill now((shaking my head up-n-down))the real world can be scary.

Steve.
