Rec Department Happenings

Want the latest on numerous activities and programs being offered by the South Milwaukee Recreation Department? Regular updates will be posted as they become available. Residents are encouraged to submit questions of interest via email that may be answered in our forum or by phone. ADULT EXERCISE CLASSES

The South Milwaukee Recreation Department is happy to announce that the exercise classes will again be offered.  The classes will begin the week of November 10 and students will have eight lessons.  All classes will be held in room 1125 in the Senior High School, except Water Aerobic will be offered at the Middle School in the pool.  The classes offered will be:

 

Monday

Cardio Wt & Sculpt - 9:00-9:50AM              

Yoga - 6:00-6:50PM              

Pilate - 7:00-7:50PM  

 

Tuesday 

Tai Chi - 4:30-5:20PM
Cardiokick - 6:00-6:50PM
Zumba - 7:00-7:50PM

Water Aerobics - 7:30-8:20PM - Dec  2 – Jan 8

Registration is now being accepted by mail (include name, address, age where applicable, telephone, class choice, e-mail address and proper fee) or in person on a first-come, first-served basis at the South Milwaukee Recreation Department, Room #1100, 901 15 Avenue, South Milwaukee, WI 53172.  Walk-in registration is possible, Monday - Friday, 8:00 -12:00 noon and 1:00-4:00 P.M.   We are located on the east side of the new Senior High School.  You may park your car in the east lot and enter the building through door #24.  The Recreation Office is located just inside of door #24 and the building is labeled COMMUNITY RECREATION & FITNESS CENTER.  You may also visit our website (www.smrec-fitness.org) and register on-line.

 

The fee for this class is $24 for residents and $36 for non-residents.   The Water Aerobics is $32 for residents and $48.00 for non-residents. For additional information, call 766-5081.  

 

Remember that track access is free to all SM residents and only $25 a year for Non-residents!

LITTLE "BUCKS" BASKETBALL CAMP

The popular Little Bucks Basketball Camp will be offered by the South Milwaukee Recreation Department for boys and girls 4 through 7 years of age.  The program will be held December 6-Feb 21 for both boys and girls at Rawson School.  Class will meet at 1:00-1:50PM for 4 & 5 year olds; and from 2:00-2:30PM for 6 & 7 year olds.

Instructors Matt Moen and Bob Swendrowski will again be back to teach your children the fundamentals.  Games will be kept low-keyed with a total program emphasis on having fun and learning skills.  Coaches will attempt to work on such phases of the game as offense, defense, shooting, passing and dribbling etc.  Volunteer coaches will be needed.

SEC MS BOY 7TH & 8TH GRADE BASKETBALL SEC TEAM TRYOUTS

TRYOUTS:  Wednesday, OCT 8, 2008, 3:00 pm in the Senior High Fieldhouse.

PARENT MEETING:  Monday, November 10, 20085:30 pm in the Senior High Fieldhouse.

FEE:  $110.00 Payable to the South Milwaukee Recreation Department immediately after team posting.

Games will be played against other middle school teams such as Cudahy, St. Francis, Franklin, Greendale, Greenfield, Whitnall and Muskego.  Bus transportation will be provided to and from each away contest.  Home games will be played after school in the Middle School Gym. The season will run during NOV-DEC-JAN.

IMPORTANT! All players must submit a Physical card or Alternate Year Card (if applicable) to the Athletic Department prior to participation. These are available in the Recreation Department or Athletic Department.

 

5TH - 8TH GRADE REC BASKETBALL

The South Milwaukee Recreation will again offer the popular GRADE BASKETBALL PROGRAM for 5th – 8th grade boys and girls.  Parental permission slips are now available at your school or the Recreation Department.  Games will be played on Saturdays beginning December 6, with practices beginning the week of November 3.  Volunteer coaches will be needed.  The registration deadline is October 10, 2008.  Parents are encouraged to sign-up NOW, as the program size will be limited.

Tryouts will be held for all 5th 6th 7th and 8th grader players at the Senior High Fieldhouse on the North Court as follows: 

Tue  October 14   - 7th & 8th Girls at 3:15PM;   5th & 6th Grade Girls at 4:30PM.

Wed October 15   - 7th & 8th Boys at 3:15PM;    5th & 6th Grade Boys at 4:30PM.

The basketball program fee is $28 for residents and $42 for non-residents if registered on or before Oct. 10; and $38 for residents and $52 for non-residents if registered after Oct. 10th.  All players must be registered in order to tryout.  All players trying out will be placed on a team.

3RD AND 4TH GRADE REC BASKETBALL LEAGUE

The South Milwaukee Recreation will again offer the popular 3rd and 4th GRADE BASKETBALL PROGRAM for boys and girls.

Parental permission slips are now available at your school or the Recreation Department.  You may return the permission slip to your school or the Recreation Department located in room 1001 of the Senior High School, Monday through Friday 8:00 – 12:00 and 1:00 – 4:00 P.M., or you can mail in your registration, including all pertinent information and the proper fee to 901 15th Avenue.  If you come to register in person, you may enter through the Official Community Recreation Entrance Door #24. You may registration now by mail or in person at the South Milwaukee Recreation Department.  You may also visit our website (www.smrec-fitness.org) to register online.

RUNNING CLUB FOR MIDDLE SCHOOL BOYS AND GIRLS

The South Milwaukee Recreation Dept. will start its fifth season of its running club.  The running club is open to all middle school students.  The club will meet starting Oct. 29th through March 19th.    The club will meet Mon. through Thurs. from 3:00 to 4:00 in the Middle School Gym.

MARTIAL ARTS

The following Martial Arts class will be a held from September 11 – December 18 at E.W. Luther Gym on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.  All students must purchase a uniform.  The uniform cost will be approximately $30.00.  Additional information will be available at the first class from Instructor - Rick Gawronski.  Enter door #9 and park in the back of the school.  

 

Lil’ Dragons, a class for 4 and 5 year olds will be from 5:30PM-5:55PM.  This class will offer fun exercises and games, kids begin to learn the basic movements and manners associated with the martial arts.   The class fee is $30 residents and $45 non-residents.  A minimum of 8 students need to conduct the class. The activity code is H101.101.  

 

Lil’ Tigers Karate a class for 6 - 8 year olds will be from 6:00PM-6:25PM.  This class helps prepare children for our core martial art program.  Kids will learn the basic foundation of karate, develop confidence, strength, flexibility and coordination.  The class fee is $30 residents and $45 non-residents.  A minimum of 8 students need to conduct the class. The activity code is H101.102.  

 

Te Jutsu Kai a class for 9 years - adults will be from 6:30PM-7:25PM.  Strongly influenced by Japanese karate, this class integrates principals and techniques of Chinese Kempo, Jeet Kune do, western boxing, and Eskrima.  By integrating we can cater to the needs and abilities of the individual without compromising the traditionalism in which the arts were developed, students become confident, physically fit, and well disciplined. The class fee is $40 residents and $60 non-residents.  A minimum of 9 students need to conduct the class. The activity code is H201.103.

BALLET TAP JAZZ TUMBLING POMS POINTE

Registration is now being taken by mail and in person at the South Milwaukee Recreation Dept. Office for its Youth Ballet & Tap, Tumbling,  and Jazz,.  Classes are held on Saturdays at the Middle School MPR beginning September 13th.
