Franklin blogger lies about Senator Lazich

By Kevin Fischer
Wednesday, Feb 18 2009, 09:31 PM

For several weeks now, former FranklinNOW blogger Fred Keller has been making personal, vicious, nasty attacks against state Senator Mary Lazich on his BULLSEYE blog. He and a handful of sometimes anonymous individuals have also made it a point to pounce on every blog she writes, even simple, harmless informational entries. They apparently have a total disregard for the Senator’s long history of being a fighter for conservative values and ideals and fiscal responsibility.

Tonight, Keller went too far. He gleefully told his readers to read the comments posted on the Senator’s blog reacting to Governor Doyle’s budget address. One of those comments was from Keller himself, blasting a Lazich supporter:

GENO53151,

"
Keep up the good work Mary?"  Where have you been?

The "good Sen. Mary Lazich" VOTED AGAINST TABOR!  Yeah, Mary, "keep up the good work!" Flip-flopper!

There’s a major problem with Keller’s comment. It is blatantly false. Worse yet, Keller knows it’s false, but he made the comment anyway.

Last year, Keller posted a blog about Senator Lazich’s stance on the Taxpayer’s Bill of Rights (TABOR) that was considered in the Legislature a few years ago. I found Keller's blog to be grossly unfair and incomplete so I politely sent him the following e-mails.

The first was at 7:14 a.m. on 8/13/08:

Fred, I read your blog on TABOR. Initially Senator Lazich had some reservations based on early numbers she received from the Fiscal Bureau. She then became one of the staunch proponents of the measure. Please see some of her columns on the issue:

Then I sent Keller a second e-mail the same day at 7:23 a.m. with Senator Lazich’s recorded vote on TABOR and a Journal Sentinel article about her vote:

The roll call

Fred Keller has known since last August that Senator Lazich voted in favor of TABOR. But tonight, he chose to submit a comment he knew was false.

Fred Keller, a man my wife and I showed hospitality to, a man I responded to when he reached out to me asking for blogging advice, a man I considered a friend has sadly resorted to these kinds of tactics for reasons I’m not entirely sure of other than they are petty and personal.

Reasonable and fair criticisms of any elected official are acceptable in our democracy that enjoys free speech. Publishing an outright lie is not. Fred Keller’s motivation is clear. I left my own comment on Senator Lazich’s blog in response to Keller’s:

Fred, your comment that Senator Mary Lazich voted against TABOR is false and you know it. Several months ago, after you printed an inaccurate attack on your blog about the Senator and the TABOR issue, I respectfully sent you the actual voting record on TABOR. Senator Lazich has always voted in favor of TABOR.

Y
our above comment could not be ignored. In your zealous and reckless effort to smear the good name and hard work of an individual, you have gone too far.

I would advise everyone that Fred Keller is on a personal crusade to tar and feather Senator Lazich and to do so will print anything and everything, whether he has the facts to back it up or not.

I challenge Fred Keller or anyone else to produce documentation that Senator Lazich voted against TABOR. No such documentation exists. Therefore, Fred Keller's credibility on past vicious attacks against Senator Lazich and any other blogs or comments he chooses to make about Senator Lazich in the future should seriously be taken into question or rejected outright.

Satisfied Constituent

Kevin,

It's unfortunate that so few citizens are actively involved in politics and I simply mean following the issues , contacting their legislators and actually following the voting record of their legislators.  If the majority did these few simple things it would leave little room for others to try and distort the truth and cloud the issues.

Sen. Lazich's record speaks for itself and her voting record as well as her stand on issues is public record so I don't understand what the purpose is in attacking her on the TABOR or other issues.  Again, unfortunately so many are apathetic towards government that it opens the door for others to tarnish a reputation so easily.  As the saying goes "don't believe everything you read" and if you are upset over the accusations please take the time to find out the truth before passing judgement.  It's acceptable to disagree with a legislator's stand on an issue--just make sure you actually know what that stand is.

I am a very satisfied constituent of Sen. Lazich and do follow her voting record on issues.

It is unfortunate that someone can post comments as fact when they are anything but.  2 people on her blog feel they make up the majority opinion on the Senator.  There is a reason Senator Lazich ran unopposed and clearly her constituents are pleased with the work she does.     I trust in the intelligence of most readers to see through what is clearly someone with too much time on his hands who is treating all of this as a big joke.

I think that Fred Keller nailed it right on the head as he quotes Mary in Mike Johnson's - Milwaukee Journal article where he says of  "Mary Although she favors some type of property tax controls, state Sen. Mary Lazich says she "flatly refuses" at this time to support enactment of the so-called taxpayer bill of rights.. "

I for one would like to see a real Republican run to represent Franklin instead of "Crazy Mary".

I trust the intelligence of your readers to see that she really is "Bad for Franklin, and Bad for Wisconsin".

As I tried to explain to Fred Keller last August who wanted no part of being fair about this, the initial version(s) of the Taxpayer Bill of Rights, according to the nonpartisan Legislative Fiscal Burau would have cost the state more. How would it have looked for the Senator at that time to come out endorsing a plan that would have been fiscally irresponsible??!!

Over time and with more work, TABOR evolved into a better proposal for the taxpayers and Senator Lazich became an enthusiastic supporter. She voted for TABOR. But these facts didn't fit Fred Keller's template, so he lied thinking no one would notice or challenge him on it.

Maybe this doesn't bother you, Frank Lin, but Fred Keller not only lied, he knowingly lied, and got caught. And now he's not man enough or decent enough to admit it, he's DEFENDING his lie. I thought he was a better person with at least some integrity and class. I was very wrong. But I guess there are some who buy into his philosophy that lying is ok if it benefits you.

It's not the first time he's lied on his blogs. He spread many about the Boomgaard issue last year. When I called him on it, he did what he does best......go into a tantrum.

As for Mary Lazich not being  a true Republican, trust me, the Dems in the Capitol would be laughing uproariously over that one!

I wonder if Fred Keller is a closet liberal. We know he's a liar.

But rarely, if ever, does he beat up on liberal Democrats on his angry, hateful blog, save for Obama. What about Doyle? Wisconsin Dems? Congressional Dems? They all seem to get a free pass.

Keller smears my boss a lot because one day last year he woke up and immaturely decided he didn't like me anymore. He also likes to bash Franklin alderman Steve Olson who is a conservative.  He was opposed to our new ban on sick leave mandates. And he sure gets cozy with lefty bloggers. They never get criticized (because they're his new buds).

Yeh, I'm thinkin' Keller just might be a flaming lib in denial.

Frank Lin

Say Kevin, isn't Steve Taylor a conservative. I know he had a Bush sticker on his notebook.

Could Keller smear your boss because he doesn't feel she does anything for Franklin and he does not care about her conservative rhetoric just her job performance. I think most of the Franklin bloggers have bashed her because, "What has she done for Franklin lately?" except embarrass us as Milwaukee magazines top ten useless State Senators?

If you notice Keller is critical of more than just OBama. He has been a big Bush supporter in the past.

I think what Keller is just trying to say is Mary Lazich is just an embarrassment to Franklin and he hopes this is her last term!!!!

February 21, 2009 5:41 PM

Kevin Fischer

In order, Frank Lin or whoever you are:

No, I don't think Steve Taylor is a conservative. He pretends to be one and has fooled some people, one starry-eyed individual in particular who goes gah-gah every time he's in the room.  (Watch out, Steve. She coud turn on you, too).

Keller started blogging a long time ago and NEVER ripped Senator Lazich until he decided to turn on me. How petty.

People want to know what's being done, but when the Senator talks about what's going on, she's accused of self-aggrandizement.

The Senator's record is clear to anyone who wants to go through it. To suggest she hasn't worked hard for her district is foolish. Even the Democrats realized she'd be tough to beat and didn't run anyone against her.

Milwaukee Magazine's round-up of 20 anonymous individuals is nothing but gossipy trash.

No, Keller doesn't criticiize liberal Democrats. I think it's because deep down inside, he's a moonbat.

If Keller wants to be critical of anyone, he can be fair without the dirty crap he's pulled, including lying.

Frank Lin, if you'd like to comment on Keller's disgusting tactic of lying, please do. That's the topic of this blog. If you just want to join his smear campaign, it won't be published here.

Frank Lin

Thanks for the ban Kevin. Sounds like you are on par with Greg Kowalski and Cindy Kilkenney who don't like to let my comments be published either.

I guess the only ones left to read your blogs are your friends Michelek and Satisfied Constituent.

Good luck with that one!

February 21, 2009 7:14 PM

Kevin Fischer

There's no ban.

Just stay on topic.

And if you compare me one more time to Klueless Kowalski and Not at all conservative Kilkenny, you just might get banned.

February 21, 2009 7:26 PM

Kevin Fischer

Greg Kowalski, the comment you attempted to post was not allowed because it contained a false accusation.

In regard to FRANK LIN, Greg, we have no idea who that is or where the person lives. Heck, for all we know, it might even be you sock-puppeting. Some bloggers, the ones you're so lovey-dovey with now, have accused you of that in the past.

And we know of at least one Franklin blogger who's definitely done it, don't we Greg...

Ahhh, I miss all those characters. I guess they'll just have to.......rest in peace.
